Title – Full Stack Java Developer
  1. Location – Knoxville, TN
  2. Duration of position – 12+ months

  9. Must Haves / Like to haves: They need to have experience with AWS, candidate will be working with a small team. This is an onsite position, must be in Knoxville, TN.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Responsibilities:

Serve as a team member contributing to the efforts of the development team, including internal and external/vendor team members.

Drive continuous improvement in Discovery's software development efforts by instilling best-of-breed engineering practices.

Design, develop, modify, and implement software components anywhere in the stack – from server-side RESTful services to client-side JavaScript code.

Assist in task planning, and estimation.

Review the work of other peers on project teams.

Work in close partnership with other team members and other teams.

 

Required skills/experience:

Minimum 8 years of commercial web development.  

Experience in and success with Agile software development methodologies, especially Scrum and Kanban.

Experience with Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), and specifically designing and developing service interfaces using REST and to a lesser degree, SOAP.

Experience in, and preference for, developing software in a CI/CD environment.

Knowledge of JavaScript, including frameworks (AngularJS, Backbone.js, Ember.js, Knockout) is strongly preferred. 

Experience with a variety of open source Java frameworks and tools.


Desirable:

Familiarity with Amazon's cloud capabilities (ELBs, EC2 instances, SQS, EBS, S3) and hosting environment (regions, availability zones) is highly beneficial.   We are migrating applications to the cloud, and nearly all new applications are designed to be deployed to the cloud.

Proficiency in general scripting languages like Groovy and Python is beneficial.

Experience with Tomcat or other application server(s) desired.  

 

Education:

             Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science preferred; equivalent professional experience considered.
