Supporting GCO applications and systems requires the following skills:
- Create/Manage permissions, views and ensure the customer asks on the sharepoint applications are met.
- Capable of managing complex SharePoint security/permissions
- Knowledge of SharePoint governance and best practices
- Familiarity with SharePoint web parts and third-party web parts
- Fluent in the following programming languages and technologies: HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery, XML, XSL/XSLT, SharePoint web services
- Ability to create image maps
- Ability to quickly troubleshoot issues and correct them
- Gather requirements from stakeholders
- Create and modify existing Nintex workflows
The GCO site collection is home to many applications and custom pages that rely on custom code that has been created over the years.
GCO Homepage, GCO Goals/Initiatives, Country Footprint Map, IQ2020 Reports, GCO Internal Workspace sites, CTT site, DocShare sites, CDT and SMT Goals, Syneos site, POC Support Requests, Public Inquiry Tracking and Metrics, and many more...
In addition to troubleshooting/upgrading custom applications, this role requires someone who is proficient at troubleshooting SharePoint permissions and managing SharePoint security. The user must possess knowledge of Active Directory security groups, SharePoint groups, permission levels, and unique permissions best practices. In addition, GCO also supports the GD site collection which has a separate security model and relies on Azure AD.
SharePoint 2010 is nearing the end of its support cycle. TeamNet sites are being migrated from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint Online. Migration of the GCO site collection is expected to take place within the year. Since the GCO site collection is so heavily customized, there will be many applications and pages that will no longer function once migrated. These applications will either need to be fixed or redesigned. This will require someone who is familiar with the applications, as well as have the skills and experience to redesign the applications in the SharePoint Online platform. In addition, the complex security of the GCO site will need to be redone as well. Although IT has migration tools at its disposal, there will need to be manual effort needed to secure the new GCO site collection in SharePoint Online. Azure AD does not sync all of the on-premise AD groups, and cost-centers for SharePoint security have been deprecated.
In summary, the Data Analyst role will need to be filled with someone who is proficient in several programming languages, experienced in SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint Online, has a thorough understanding of security and permissions, quickly reverse engineer existing applications, design applications for efficiency and future maintenance, and effectively troubleshoot ad-hoc support requests.
