Position :: Data Engineer (100 % Remote)
Employment Type :: Contract
Location :: Francisco, CA
Job Description:
Look for candidates with Airflow and ask them if they can do a new Operator. They won't just do Dev, they will be deploying code as well. They deploy using Puppet (they have their own documented process) Will work with GIT and BitBucket. Would be ideal if candidates understand GitHub well. They pull repos down locally, do the work, and push back up.
Other things they're use are Presto, Hive, Sqoop, etc. Should have decent Linux skills and know how to SSH to machines. Will be working through a Backlog of tasks and projects.
GitHub is seeking an amazing individual, to join its Data Engineering Team for a 6 month contract. This role will focus on clearing our backlog of requests to find creative solutions to tough problems. The day to say tasks will include development, documentation, and maintenance of our data warehouse, supporting the work of data scientists, product managers and analysts.

- Collaborate with Business Analysts and partners to understand desired business outcomes and propose solutions to achieve those results
- Ensure the data warehouse is performant, scalable, resilient, and maintainable
- Implement secure and auditable data infrastructure as required
- Follow ETL architecture standards, procedures, and policies.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- 5+ years working with ETL tools and ETL programming
- 5+ years experience in Business Intelligence / Data Engineering / Data Warehousing roles working with multiple disparate, complex, large datasets
- 5+ years designing ETL solutions for data migration or data integration
- 7+ years experience with software development
- Firm grasp of large-scale data warehousing
- Experience with relational and MPP database engines
- Brilliant SQL skills
- Experience with AWS
- Experience with Presto
- Experience with Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and SQL on Hadoop-related technologies
- Proficient in Python
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Acute attention to detail
- Passion for data
