Description:
Senior Splunk Engineer who is responsible for the implementation and configuration of real-time monitoring, event management, and reporting of the infrastructure (i.e., network, servers, storage, databases, security devices) and applications

Position Summary:
  • Baselines, monitors, and troubleshoots network, systems, and application performance.
  • Works closely with different teams to troubleshoot systems and application performance problems while demonstrating expertise with data captures and analysis along with basic scripting knowledge.
  • Creates an atmosphere of engagement around monitoring, working with teams to create a self-service type of system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the company's existing monitoring and event management infrastructure, including design, installation, administration, support, troubleshooting, and reporting.
  • Collaborates with a variety of information technology teams to understand their applications, the components of the application, and the impact of the application on the infrastructure. Provides integration to the monitoring and event management systems.
  • Works closely with IT engineers to understand event sources, event flows, and event processing hierarchies. Establishes event filtering and forwarding conditions.
  • Collaborates with IT engineers to better understand cross-platform and cross-host event correlations to drive root cause and prevent repeat technology failures.
  • Partners with the IT Help Desk to integrate event management into Service Now platform and establish automated ticketing and escalation capabilities.
  • Works with IT engineers to plan, lead, and complete an annual event management environment assessment.
  • Builds performance metrics and develops tools to provide IT Engineers real-time or near real-time analytics by platform.
  • Responsible for creating and publishing Event Management policies, guidelines, and standards. Works with IT leadership team and engineers to ensure policies are enforced and operational.
  • Establishes and communicates Event Management notification processes and alerts. Creates a roadmap for use of notification tools (e.g., Xmatters, ServiceNow, etc.).
  • Serves in the role of technical subject matter expert, refining existing functional requirements for monitoring and event management tools.
  • Participates in the development of an integrated monitoring/event management tooling strategy and architecture.
  • Conducts research on event management products, services, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the event management industry.
  • Responsible for the delivery of assigned projects on the Event Management Roadmap.
  • Collaborates with the IT Help Desk to identify potential areas for improvement within the event management infrastructure to streamline IT Help Desk operations and generate efficiencies.
  • Creates a pro-active program outreach with teams within IT to develop a self-service process where teams are empowered to create dashboards and own there monitoring experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Four-year degree required, preferably in Computer Science.
  • Minimum 3 years working in Splunk Enterprise with operations and development, including but not limited to ITSI, heavy forwarders, upgrades and maintenance patches, developing alerts, custom dashboards and Service Now integration.
  • Five years of experience in networking, system operations, event management, or system analyst roles.
  • Experience with administering monitoring systems such as (Open view, SolarWinds, Open NMS, Nagios, etc.).
  • Network experience equivalent to Cisco CCNA, actual certification preferred. Must have detailed knowledge of TCP/IP, OSPF, QOS, ICMP, SNMP, and NETFLOW.
  • Experience with MIB data structures.
  • Knowledge of Windows Domain architecture required.
  • Experience or knowledge with the following operating systems: Windows Server, AIX, and Linux.
