Summary:
The main function of a database administrator is to coordinate changes to computer databases, test and implement the database applying knowledge of database management systems. A typical database administrator is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing security measures to safeguard the computer database.

Job Responsibilities:
• Direct programmers and analysts to make changes to existing databases and database management systems.

• Direct others in coding logical and physical database descriptions.

• Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project.

• Review and approve database development and determine project scope and limitations.

• Approve, schedule, plan and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems.

• Implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure.

• Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information.

• Expert ability to work independently and manage one’s time.
• Expert leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
• Expert knowledge of computer hardware and software.
• Expert knowledge of computer software, such as SQL, Visual Basic, Oracle, etc.

Education/Experience:
• Associate's degree in computer programming or relevant field required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

 

Typical Day - 

General oracle database management, and cloning, patching, upgrades, heavy focus on security and security patching and any emergencies

Lots of patching, different customers and projects

Project work, working through ServiceNow, access requests, clones, patching, interacting with customers that are generally other IT people

Ability to write scripts to automate tasks is helpful

Need ppl to be able to troubleshoot effectively 

Typically 8-10 tickets a day

 

He values tangible relevant experience with results above anything else

Being able to demonstrate that you can solve problems

 

How many years of experience - 8-10 yoe

 

 

Required Skills (top 3-5 non-negotiables)-         

1. Oracle apps DBA, SQL, visual basics

2. basic oracle administration skills

3. understanding security TOS type and how infrastructure communicates with one another and securing this design

4. excellent written and verbal comms

5. problem solving skills

6.critical thinker
