Senior Business Analyst Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst to support the implementation of an enterprise Transportation Management System (TMS) within a large domestic logistics business unit. Reporting to the PMO, the ideal candidate will play a critical role in driving the successful delivery of this strategic project. This role requires a deep understanding of business processes within the logistics sector, exceptional communication skills, and strong analytical expertise to ensure that project objectives are met effectively and efficiently.
The Senior Business Analyst will also manage a team of business analysts, establish workflows, and contribute to the overall standards and practices for business analysis within the PMO.
Objectives of this Role
- Partner with cross-functional teams to define, document, and validate business and functional requirements for the enterprise TMS implementation.
- Evaluate and improve existing logistics processes, identifying opportunities to align them with the capabilities of the new TMS platform.
- Act as a bridge between business units, IT teams, and the TMS vendor to ensure alignment of system design and user needs.
- Create and implement detailed project management plans with a focus on clear and transparent communication.
- Perform and communicate thorough quality assurance at all stages of the TMS implementation.
- Lead business and product research activities to support informed decision-making and strategic initiatives.
- Manage and mentor a team of business analysts while establishing workflow processes and standards within the PMO.
Responsibilities
- Requirements Gathering and Analysis
- Work with stakeholders across logistics operations, sales, finance, and IT to gather and analyze system requirements.
- Collaborate with the TMS vendor to document system capabilities, configurations, and customizations needed to meet business needs.
- Develop comprehensive business requirements documents (BRDs) and functional specifications.
- Process Improvement and System Alignment
- Analyze current logistics processes and recommend enhancements to maximize efficiency using the new TMS.
- Ensure the proposed TMS solution supports key logistics operations, including freight management, routing, and scheduling.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, from operational teams to executives, to ensure alignment and transparency.
- Facilitate workshops, focus groups, and interviews to gather feedback and validate solutions.
- Team Leadership and Standards Development
- Manage a team of business analysts, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback.
- Define and enforce workflows, processes, and standards for business analysis within the PMO.
- Implementation Support
- Collaborate with IT, operations, and vendors to support system configuration, testing, and deployment.
- Assist in developing test cases and conducting user acceptance testing (UAT).
- Provide training materials and support for end-users as part of the implementation.
- Reporting and Documentation
- Develop and deliver regular status updates and reports to PMO leadership and project stakeholders.
- Maintain all project documentation, including business process maps, user stories, and technical specifications.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years in business analysis roles, preferably within logistics, supply chain, or transportation.
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience working with TMS platforms (e.g., Oracle, SAP TM, or Blue Yonder).
- Analysis and Communication: Strong analytical skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Project Management Knowledge: Familiarity with Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid project methodologies.
- Team Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor business analysts.
- Tools: Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, or other project management tools.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of logistics operations, including freight, LTL brokerage, and managed transportation services.
- Data Skills: Experience with data analysis, reporting tools, and visualization platforms.
Documentation: High proficiency in technical and business writing.
