Desktop Services Engineer
The Desktop Services Engineer will be responsible for automating, packaging, sequencing, and deploying applications to the enterprise via Microsoft System Configuration Manager (SCCM) and/or VMware Horizon. They will be required to test application deployment for all applications to the end user device and provide monitoring and reporting on the deployments. This position will be required to identify, analyze, and resolve Desktop support issues. The Desktop Services Engineer will be required to act as a Subject Matter Expert for all Windows based enterprise, VDI, and in house applications.
Application Packaging
- Evaluate compatibility of programs with existing hardware and/or software features.
- On-board, package, and maintain shrink-wrapped and proprietary applications/software. Develop and test an uninstall package/process for each packaged application.
- Versed in identifying applications targeted to machine or user context and employing the correct deployment methodologies related to each instance.
- Test application deployment for all applications to the end user device including; successful installation via SCCM, successful launch in Windows 7/8.1.
- Provide application package troubleshooting and remediation as required. This includes off-hours and/or emergency support as dictated by the needs of the business.
- Prepare, submit, and manage application Change Requests through approval.
- Understanding of UAC handling of rights elevation as it pertains to software installations and upgrades.
- Understanding of third party agent integration (CyberArk EPM) for right elevations for application installations and daily functionality.
End User Support
- Troubleshoot (Level 2/3) application/OS support related issues for end users.
Requirements
- 3-5 Years SCCM experience with packaging and deployment
- MSI packaging
- PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit & VB Script experience
- Application Packaging experience targeted to Win7/8.1/10
- Understanding of VMware Horizon 7 with View.
- Experience with packaging and conversion of legacy applications.
- Experience with VMware Application Virtualization via App Volumes & ThinApp
- Experience with VMware UEM and Writeable Volume integration.
- Windows OS Imaging
- Experience and understanding of desktops OS and user interactions with Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure and security principles.
- WSUS / Patching Experience
- Must have an understanding of Active Directory Group Policy processing and application deployment in SCCM.
- Experience with VmWare Horizon/View Image templates & deployment scripts.
- Understanding of Microsoft Universal Windows Platform (UWP)
- Application Whitelisting/Blacklisting & security
- Understanding of PKI certificate structure
- Ability to develop and maintain accurate and comprehensive IT documentation.
- Experience working in large enterprise environments and networks
- Independent problem solver with troubleshooting, decision making and analytical skills
- Understanding of SQL infrastructure and query building.
Desired Skills
- Familiarity with Privilege Management concepts and functionality.
- Familiarity with DEVOPs support
- Apple OS management and application deployment.
- SQL reporting
- Experience supporting developers with Git, Weblogic, Eclipse and Java development
Education
Bachelor Degree preferred.
Experience
At least six years of experience in IT in an Engineering role with a minimum of three years’ experience acting in an Application Packaging role.
