Requirements:
• Analyse, design, code, debug, test and modify new software or enhancements while considering software abilities
• Create strategic technical designs for small scope projects within team
• Provide high-level architecture guidance and develop specifications to resolve software problems
• Consult with stakeholders on current functionality and complexity of adding features
• Estimate effort for current and future projects of small to medium scope
• Debug complicated issues that span multiple modules, involve complex concurrency or low-level problems
• Propose and lead process improvements projects for development, deployment or application monitoring
• Share knowledge within team through mentorship, coaching, technical talks and blogs
Additional Job Description: Contractor will be working with a team focused on optimizing and extending our Analytics platform built on top of Hadoop and Vertica. Specifically they will be developing in Java within our Apache Crunch pipelines (an abstraction on top of Map/Reduce) that are designed as batch processing jobs to facilitate the transformation of data into reporting and analytics oriented data models that are loaded into our Vertica-based Datawarehouse. Ideal candidates are comfortable writing Apache Crunch or Java Map/Reduce pipelines and have experience analyzing performance and scalability issues and proposing resolutions.
