JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary:
The Network Engineer III is a highly experienced member of a small high-performance team responsible for designing, implementing and providing operational support of an advanced state of the art research network in one of the world???s premier Life Sciences Research Institutes.
The position requires an individual to manage the local area network and the VOIP Unified Communication Manager in support of administrative operations and scientific research. Additionally, the candidate will be required to stay current in emerging technologies and identifying cost-effective solutions to continually improve the quality and performance of network and network-enabled services. Finally, the candidate will provide backup support for the other members of the team and will be expected to respond to operational issues whenever they occur.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage the stability, integrity and efficient operation of the network and in-house information systems that support core organizational functions.
Under the direction of the Principal Network Architect and the Sr. Manager of IT Security?? and Network Engineering, provides highly skilled technical support to in-house IT, administrative and scientific staff plus a constant stream of visitors.
Act as the technical team lead for the administration and maintenance of the VoIP system including mentoring other network engineers in VoIP system administration
Acquire an in-depth understanding of the applications and services that depend on the Local Area Network and Wide Area Network team to ensure reliable performance.
Administrate and maintain wireless LAN infrastructure
Support the security engineers in the administration and maintenance of VPN access appliances
Documentation of the network and VoIP infrastructure
Maintain network cabling infrastructure and function as main point of contact for cabling contractors
Serve as main point of contact to assist and coordinate with outside network providers to accomplish needed work in our facilities
Assist security engineers in incident response incidents
Monitor and maintain all network activity, responding to personal analysis as well as automated alerts to prevent and/or minimize network disruptions.
Work closely with the software development teams to ensure the network provides applications the performance and security they require.
Work closely with the UNIX/Storage and Desktop services teams to ensure their services are provided the necessary network services and security.
Support a 24x7x365 multi-vendor network infrastructure that includes Arista, Aruba and Cisco hardware and software solutions.
Support a 24x7x365 high-performance backbone between two data centers.
Support a 24x7x365 network services for 20 conferences per year.
Perform as a backup role for the security engineers.Required Skills & Abilities

Ability to logically troubleshoot network-related issues
In-depth knowledge of the OSI Model and TCP/IP
In-depth knowledge of network protocols such as Spanning Tree Protocol and OSPF
In-depth understanding of CoS / QoS techniques, latency, jitter, packet loss, and bandwidth utilization
Expert-level troubleshooting skills of Cisco VoIP infrastructure systems
In-depth knowledge of routing protocols including, OSPF, RIP, BGP, ECMP
In-depth understanding of VoIP protocols including SIP, MGCP, H.323, RTP, SRTP
Ability to use and understand protocol analyzers.
The ability to work under pressure and interface with senior management will be key to this individual???s success.
Ability to learn and respond to demands in a fast-paced, highly technical environment.
Ability to effectively work in a team environment, as well as, independently is required
