Role: Network Engineer With firewall experience
Location: Honolulu, Hawaii ( Onsite project )
Duration: Long Term
Note: Local consultant OR PST Consultant
- Provide a secure, robust, performant and cost-effective telecommunications infrastructure for our applications, employees, partners and customers.
- Provide consulting & guidance on network technologies, tooling and design to other teams.
- Actively research new technology and, when beneficial, bring it to production for Hawaiian Airlines.
- Act as the subject matter experts on the network, setting the long-term roadmaps and leading teams to improve the underlying technologies.
- Improve operations by providing our ops teams with automations, tooling, documentation, policies and procedures for operating and maintaining the network.
- Oversee change to the network, ensuring appropriate designs, testing and work instructions take place.
- Provide top level support for situations where operations staff and vendors are unable to resolve issues.
- Preform site-surveys, where appropriate, to design structured cabling, local area network and wide area network solutions for new sites or site changes.
- Work with facilities, operations, cabling and electrical contractors through all phases of construction to implement network designs.
- Incorporate architectural guidelines, business needs, cost & technology considerations when designing new platform components.
- Run projects of small complexity – leading team members to accomplish stated objectives.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of professional work experience and/or education
• 3 years’ work experience in network engineering or Information Technology
• Strong written and verbal skills as much of the work will be in highly collaborative environments. A friendly persona and good team work is a must.
• Hands on, production work experience supporting one or more standard network technologies:
o Route/Switch
o Enterprise wireless
o Firewalls (L3/L7)
o Load Balancers
o VPN
• Experience documenting network designs
• Experience patching, securing & maintaining networks and networking devices.
• Desire to keep up to date on the latest automation, testing and monitoring technologies and bring them to full production readiness for our stack.
• Ability to create knowledge documents for use in training operations personnel
• Demonstrated troubleshooting abilities – able to analyze and resolve technical problems of medium complexity
• Ability to review the technical work of others and coach.
Preferred
Qualifications
• B.S., Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems
• Airline or related industry experience
• One or more of the following:
o Proficiency in scripting or network automation
o Hands on experience with cloud networking and cloud security
o Experience with microwave or satellite communications
o Experience with Ground to Air radio communciations
o Experience building communication systems as part of facilities designs: e.g. structured cabling, MDF/IDF placement, etc
